Internal Morena Struggle for Mexico City Mayorship

Within the Morena party in Mexico City, there is no consensus on a potential candidate for mayor. According to sources, figures aspiring for the position include the current Undersecretary of Security, José Luis Rodríguez Díaz de León, and the former mayor of Cuauhtémoc, now a federal official, Néstor Núñez. Political ambitions are also not ruled out for the party's parliamentary spokesperson, Arturo Ávila, who has begun working in the Cuauhtémoc borough. However, as noted in the 'Fourth Transformation,' Ávila has failed to achieve unanimity, and several figures within the party are ready to compete with Alessandra Rojo de la Vega. Authorities acknowledge that Ávila does not have the full agreement of the various groups seeking power. Meanwhile, the Secretary of Citizen Participation, Tomás Pliego, is working with one of his most trusted men, Emilio Villar. Despite this, the 'Fourth Transformation' believes that the borough, currently governed by the opposition PAN party, will be difficult to win in 2027, leading Ávila to potentially focus on Cuauhtémoc. However, this very borough is one of the most coveted in Morena, which has led to internal tensions and resistance to Arturo Ávila's candidacy.
